Trading and the Trade Pass
Trading and the Trade Pass
What you need before you can drop, trade or mail on Project Ragnarok Online, and how to get one.
Trading and the Trade Pass
You need an active Trade Pass before you can drop an item, trade with another player, hand over Zeny, send mail, or put something in guild storage. Without one the server refuses the action. This is the single thing new players are most often surprised by, so it is the first article here.
One thing does not need a pass: running a vending shop, or buying from one. You can sell your loot to other players without ever holding a pass. Buying shops are not open to players in this episode.
Zeny that changes hands is taxed 30%. The buyer or sender pays the full amount and the receiver gets 70%; the rest is removed from the game. It applies to vending sales, trades, mailed Zeny and what an NPC pays you for loot, so price your shop with it in mind.
Getting a Trade Pass
There are two ways to buy one, and one of them costs no money at all. Both VIP passes also include 3 days of Trade Pass.
| Rachel's Favor Shop | 200 Rachel's Favor for the 1 Day pass. Favor is earned in game by playing: active time, attendance, the dailies, events and MVPs. Every way to earn it. Nothing is spent but time. |
|---|---|
| Cash Shop | 200 Cash Points for the 1 Day pass, which is 20 pesos. The same number as the Favor price, without the play time. |
The two prices are the same number. Favor has to be earned by playing, so the Favor price exists so that a player who never spends money can still trade.
Why trading works this way
Unrestricted trading is what makes a server worth farming with scripts. A bot that can move what it collects to another account is a business; one that cannot is just a character standing in a field. Putting a small, timed cost in front of every transfer removes most of that value without getting in the way of somebody playing normally.
It also gives the Marketplace something to be. High value equipment and cards route through that controlled channel rather than through private trades, which is what makes their prices visible to everyone instead of being whatever two people agreed in a whisper.
What it does not cover
A Trade Pass lets you move ordinary items. It does not unlock the high value list. Certain equipment and cards are restricted to the Marketplace regardless of whether you hold a pass, and that restriction does not expire. The Marketplace article lists exactly what, with the fees and how to list.
The pass runs on real time from the moment you use it, whether you are logged in or not.
