What your PC needs
Project Ragnarok Online runs on Windows PCs. There is no Mac, Linux or phone version. The client is from 2021 and runs Pre-Renewal content, so it runs comfortably on hardware that struggles with modern games.

| Download | The full client is a 3.3 GB zip, about 6 GB once extracted. It comes from our own server: the first 150 MB at full speed, then shared out so downloads never slow the game down. |
Installing
- Extract the zip anywhere you like, a games folder such as
C:\Gamesis fine. Avoid Program Files: patching there needs administrator rights and fails. - Run
Ragnarok.exe, notRagexe.exe. Ragnarok.exe is the launcher: it downloads every update in order, checks your graphics setup and starts the game. The first time on a PC it opens the Ragnarok Setup window: pick your graphics card and screen size, then press OK. - Log in with the account from the Pre-Register page. Until your account's opening date the game says you are prohibited from logging in until that date. That is the hold, not a ban.
Already installed before 7 September 2026? Get the client update from the
Download page (31 MB) and extract it into the same folder as Ragexe.exe. Your characters, settings and hotkeys are not touched.
The anti-cheat
The client ships with Gepard, an anti-cheat made for Ragnarok servers. It runs on every connection, and you do not install or start anything yourself.

If something goes wrong
The Intel graphics fix, the launcher, a damaged download and the other common problems. Tap a question to open it.
A blank white window, or “Cannot init d3d OR grf file has problem”
Nine times out of ten this PC has simply never run Ragnarok before. The game reads your graphics card's details from a registry key that only its own setup tool writes, and on a fresh PC that key is empty.
- In your game folder, right-click
Setup.exeand choose Run as administrator. - Check that it names your real graphics card and that Screen Size holds a resolution. Neither box may be blank. On a laptop, leave Full Screen Mode unticked.
- Press OK. That is the step that writes the key. Cancel, or closing the window with the X, writes nothing and the game fails again.
- Start the game with
Ragnarok.exe, notRagexe.exe. Ragnarok.exe is the launcher: it patches the game and checks this setup for you. Starting Ragexe.exe directly skips that check.
If your download has no Setup.exe, get the
setup fix (3.1 MB) and follow its
READ-ME-FIRST.txt. If you were sent an older copy of that fix containing
ProLaunch.exe, do not use it: it replaces the launcher with an older build
that no longer protects Intel laptops from a separate crash.
That error message covers a second problem too: a damaged download. Check these sizes in
your game folder (right-click a file > Properties):
data.grf 3,030,703,762 bytes, Ragexe.exe 12,897,280 bytes,
gepard.dll 28,952,568 bytes. Anything smaller means the download or the
extraction did not finish, or your antivirus removed part of it. See
“Your antivirus flags the download” below, then extract again: it needs about
3.2 GB of free space on top of the zip.
The game closes right after the Gepard screen, and the crash log mentions igc32.dll
This is a known bug in newer Intel graphics drivers (version 32) with older games like Ragnarok. It mostly affects laptops with Intel graphics. Downloads from 17 September 2026 handle it automatically: the launcher checks your graphics card every time you press Play and installs the fix only on Intel machines. If your download is older:
- Close the game and download the Intel graphics fix (400 KB).
- Extract its 3 files (
DDraw.dll,D3DImm.dll,dgVoodoo.conf) into your game folder, next toRagexe.exe, and start the game as usual. - If it still crashes, send us the
game_crash_log.txtfile from your game folder on Discord.
Walls, ground and windows are plain white, only characters show
This happens on AMD laptops when the Intel fix above is present but not needed. Downloads
from 17 September 2026 remove it by themselves at Play. If yours is older, either install
the client update above, or move DDraw.dll and D3DImm.dll out of
your game folder and start the game again.
“Cannot find File” with Chinese or other characters in the path
An error such as Cannot find File : sprite\... or Resource File Loading fail whose path
shows Chinese, Japanese or other non-English characters. It comes from your Windows setting for older programs,
which can stop the game finding some of our custom hats, costumes and item icons. Let the patcher finish first:
the update of 19 October fixes this for most players. If the error still appears, set that Windows setting to
English:
- Windows 11: Settings (Windows key + I) > Time & language > Language & region > Administrative language settings > Change system locale > English (United States).
- Windows 10: Control Panel > Clock and Region > Region > Administrative tab > Change system locale > English (United States).
- Leave “Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8” unticked, press OK, then restart your PC.
This does not change your Windows display language, your keyboard or your other apps. If an old program of yours shows strange text afterwards, switch it back the same way.
“Unregistered ID” when logging in
Your account is fine. That message means the client is older than the server expects. Install the client update above and it will clear.
Your antivirus flags the download
Anti-cheat software hooks the game process, which some antivirus products flag on sight. If files are quarantined, restore them, add your game folder to the exclusions, and extract again.
A “trash” folder appears
Normal. The anti-cheat moves unused library files there on first launch. Nothing you need is inside it.
Changing screen size
Open dinput.ini in Notepad and set both WindowWidth
and WindowHeight. Leave them at 0 for the default. You can also
toggle windowed mode in game with /window.
The launcher will not patch
Usually the game folder is somewhere Windows protects. Move it out of Program Files to somewhere like
C:\Games and run Ragnarok.exe again. If your antivirus is quarantining files, add the folder
to its exclusions and extract again.
